A recent study (Ann R Coll Surg Eng 2012 94 481-483) reports DVT problems occur in 0.5% of patients undergoing varicose vein procedures. This appears to be higher for those having bilateral recurrent varicose vein surgery (1.62%) short saphenous vein open surgery (1.16%) and EVLT endolaser  therapy (1.26%).

In conclusion all should have DVT prophylaxis, but in particular the high risk groups
